I would organize learning around the product decisions I need to make. A useful routine combines discovery sources, primary evidence and small evaluations; reading more announcements is not itself a product outcome.
I would use newsletters, research conference programs and practitioner discussions to identify topics worth investigating. Before relying on a claim, I would follow it to the paper, official technical documentation or release notes and record the version, date, evaluation conditions and limitations. A vendor demonstration or leaderboard result would be a lead to investigate, not proof that the capability works for our users.
For a relevant development, I would write a short decision note: which user problem it could address, the current baseline, the claimed improvement, required data and integration changes, costs and risks, and what evidence would change our roadmap. I would compare a simple existing approach with the proposed capability on representative, appropriately permitted examples. I would examine quality, failure cases, latency and operating cost together.
For example, a new document model might justify a limited evaluation if extraction errors are blocking a workflow. I would include difficult document types and measure corrected task completion as well as model accuracy. A lower benchmark error would not justify rollout if review effort or data-handling requirements make the workflow worse.
