Instruction: Explain how you would assess the situation, prioritize, communicate, and escalate in a real clinical setting.
Context: Assesses whether the candidate can handle a realistic general hospital travel nurse hiring scenario with safe judgment, clear communication, and appropriate escalation.
I would handle that by being helpful without stepping outside my scope. If the patient is asking something that really needs the provider's explanation, I would acknowledge the concern, share what I can accurately say from the nursing side, and then make sure the right follow-up happens. I never want a patient to feel brushed off, but I also do not want to give an answer that sounds confident and turns out to be wrong.
I think the key is how you say it. I would not just say, "That is for the doctor." I would say something more like, "I want to make sure you get the most accurate answer, and I am going to follow up on that now." Then I would actually close the loop. Patients usually tolerate uncertainty much better than mixed messages. Especially as a traveler, credibility comes from being clear about what I know, what I need to confirm, and what I am doing next.
"I would just tell them that is the doctor's job and move on."
