If I did not know the answer to a passenger's question, I would be honest about that and tell them I want to confirm the right information. Then I would check with the appropriate crew member or system and come back as quickly as possible with a clear response.
I would rather give an accurate answer a minute later than guess and create confusion or lose credibility. Passengers usually respond well when they feel they are being treated honestly and not brushed off.
